Soheil Asgarpour Appointed Chair of the Council of Canadian Academies’ Board of Directors

The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Soheil Asgarpour as the new chair of its Board of Directors. He is a recognized leader in Canada’s energy and technology sectors, with extensive experience in research, innovation, and policy development. He has held leadership roles in industry and academia, contributing to evidence-based decision-making and the advancement of science, technology, and innovation in Canada.

Dr. Asgarpour joined the CCA Board of Directors in March 2021 and he succeeds Dr. Sue Molloy, who joined the Board in March 2021 and was appointed Chair in 2023. She has provided leadership and guidance during a period of strategic transition for the organization. Under her tenure, the CCA advanced critical work on pressing national challenges while securing renewed, stable funding through the Strategic Science Fund (SSF) and developing the organization’s new five-year strategic plan.

“I am honoured to take on this role at such an important time for the CCA,” said Dr. Asgarpour. “The organization has an incredible reputation for delivering high-quality, independent assessments that inform Canada’s policy landscape. I look forward to working with the Board, the management team, and our expert networks to support the CCA’s continued success and impact.”

The CCA remains focused on delivering authoritative, evidence-based assessments to support decision-makers across governments, industry, and civil society. With its new strategic plan in place, the organization is well positioned to expand its contributions to Canada and the global science and policy ecosystem.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Asgarpour as Chair,” said Tijs Creutzberg, President and CEO of the CCA. “His expertise, experience, and leadership will be instrumental as we implement our new strategic plan and strengthen the CCA’s role in supporting informed decision-making across Canada.”

The CCA extends its thanks to Dr. Molloy for her dedication and leadership. Her contributions have helped shape the organization’s future and ensure it continues to provide trusted, evidence-based insights on Canada’s most pressing challenges.
