Martine Dorais, PhD, is a full professor in the Department of Phytology in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Laval University. She specializes in greenhouse crop physiology and organic horticulture. She was Chair of the Commission for Agroecology and Organic Farming Systems of the International Society for Horticultural Science (2014-2022) and Chair of the ISHS Working group on organic greenhouse horticulture since 2014. She has held the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) Research Chair in organic greenhouse and controlled environments since November 2020.

Since 2006, Professor Dorais’s team has developed innovative and unique systems that allow cultivation on unsuitable sites, while respecting the principles of organic farming. These bio-aboveground systems reduce nutrient leaching into the environment, improve water and nutrient use efficiency, increase productivity, require no transition period for businesses, and thus facilitate the conversion of conventional businesses to organic.
