Ian Mackenzie is an instructor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the Fraser Valley. Mr. Mackenzie holds a Bachelor of Law and is currently completing his Master of Law thesis at the University of British Columbia.
Mr. Mackenzie served in a variety of capacities as a police officer in Vancouver and Abbotsford for over 32 years. He was the Chief Constable of the Abbotsford Police Department from 2001 to 2007. Upon his retirement he joined the full-time faculty at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he had been an adjunct faculty member for many years.
His research interests include police management strategies and practices, ethics, police effectiveness, operational issues, relationships between police agencies and between police and other criminal justice and public service agencies, as well as criminal law. He is particularly interested in the role of the police within criminal law and the criminal justice system the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and civil liberties,
Mr. Mackenzie is a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
