Colin Gavaghan is a Professor at the Bristol Digital Futures Institute and University of Bristol Law School, University of Bristol. He was formerly the first Director of the New Zealand Law Foundation Centre for Law and Policy in Emerging Technologies, at the Faculty of Law, University of Otago. His research interests include the analysis of legal, ethical and policy issues around new technologies, as well as medical and criminal law.
Professor Gavaghan works as an advisor to New Zealand Government on digital technologies through his work as a member of the Digital Council for Aotearoa. His is also the first Chair of the New Zealand Police’s Expert Panel on Emergent Technologies, and a former member and Deputy Chair of the Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology which works to regulate assisted reproductive technology in New Zealand.
