Carol Herbert appointed to the Board of Governors for the Council of Canadian Academies

The Council of Canadian Academies is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Herbert, FCAHS, to its Board of Governors. Dr. Herbert is a Professor of Family Medicine at Western University in London, Ontario.

The Council’s 12-member Board of Governors is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring the fulfillment of the Council’s mandate, and oversight of its operations. The Board also features a unique structure. The Council’s three Member Academies each appoint two governors. These six governors then appoint two additional governors from the general public. The remaining four individuals are proposed by the federal Minister of Industry and are formally appointed by the Board. Dr. Herbert is a Canadian Academy of Health Sciences appointee, and will serve for three years.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Herbert to the Board of Governors,” said Margaret Bloodworth, Chair of the Council’s Board, “As Council reports take on various important topics like innovation, the environment, and health, her experience as a health and research professional is invaluable.”

Dr. Herbert teaches in family medicine and is cross-appointed to the Department of Pathology. She is also an Affiliate Member of the Department of Women’s Studies and Feminist Research at Western University. Her current board appointments in addition to the Council include the Institute Advisory Board for the CIHR Institute of Gender & Health, and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
