Mr. Raymond W. Johnston is a Special Advisor to the Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) and currently serves as President of the Green Marine Management Corporation, the legal entity that manages the Green Marine Environmental Program.
Mr. Johnston spearheaded the development of Green Marine ― a unique, industry-led sustainability initiative created to address key environmental challenges facing ship, port, and terminal operators in North America. From 2000 to 2013, Mr. Johnston served as President of the CMC. In his work with the CMC, Mr. Johnston has played a consultative role in numerous industry-related research projects and strategic initiatives and has served in an advisory capacity to government on a wide range of councils and forums. Prior to joining the CMC, Mr. Johnston was the President and Chief Executive Officer at Canada Steamship Lines Inc. of Montréal, Quebec. Throughout his 23 years with Canada Steamship Lines, Mr. Johnston held a number of senior executive positions and gained extensive expertise in all facets of the Canadian and U.S. shipping industry as well as international business development experience in Europe and Asia.
Mr. Johnston holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in Montréal, Quebec. He currently serves as a member of the Canadian Coast Guard National Marine Advisory Committee and the Lloyd’s Register North American Committee. Previously, he has served as a member on the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Minster’s Advisory Council on Oceans.
