Dr. Maureen Ashe is an Associate Professor in Family Practice at the University of British Columbia, a Canada Research Chair in Community Mobility, and a research scientist at the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility where she collaborates with a team of researchers, clinicians, and health administrators. Prior to completing her doctoral and post-doctoral work in British Columbia, Dr. Ashe graduated in Nova Scotia with two undergraduate degrees, psychology from Acadia University and physiotherapy from Dalhousie University. She also has a Masters of Exercise Physiology from the University of Adelaide in Australia.

Dr. Ashe’s research interest is in the area of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and mobility in older adults. Her current projects include an evaluation of mobility recovery in older adults after hip fracture, including a description of health resource utilization following discharge from hospital; and a self-management program for adults at retirement to re-engineer activity back into daily life. She has a special interest in the contributing role of the built and social environments for older adult community mobility.

Dr. Ashe was previously a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar and a Canadian Institutes for Health Research New Investigator. She is currently a Canada Research Chair in Community Mobility. She has authored over 90 publications and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
