Professor Guillaume St-Onge, Tier I Canada Research Chair in Marine Geology, is Director of the Institut des sciences de la mer of the Université du Québec à Rimouski (ISMER-UQAR). The largest French-language university research institute in marine sciences in Canada, ISMER-UQAR brings together a critical mass of researchers and students dedicated to advancing knowledge and discovery in coastal and marine ecosystems, with a focus on sustainable development and climate change research. Professor St-Onge was the first director of the Réseau Québec maritime (RQM), its research program Odyssée Saint-Laurent and the Institut France-Québec pour la coopération scientifique en appui au secteur maritime (IFQM). In addition to having contributed to the establishment and development of these cross-sectoral unifying initiatives, he is involved in the process of establishing a centre for innovation in marine robotics and technologies in Rimouski and is currently co-directing the marine acoustic research station (MARS) project. Professor St-Onge holds a Tier I Canada Research Chair in marine geology and has led numerous expeditions at sea or in the field in both hemispheres, focusing his research on natural hazards and climate change. The quality of his research and training has been recognized with several awards. He also chairs the board of directors of Reformar, the organization that manages the Coriolis II and Lampsilis research vessels for the Quebec and Canadian scientific community, and he sits on the board of directors and advisory committees of several marine science and research organizations at the provincial, national, and international level, including the Fonds de recherche du Québec, Amundsen Science, the Canada-wide MEOPAR network, and the European Marine Universities program of the European Commission.
