Dr. Janet King currently participates in several science-related boards, including as Chair of Polar Knowledge Canada, Vice-Chair of the Canadian Light Source, Chair of NSERC PermafrostNet, and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Science Policy Centre.
Janet enjoyed a rewarding career with the Federal Public Service, beginning as a research scientist studying Arctic geology, and subsequently working on national health regulation, life sciences industry sector development, and Western economic development. She then returned to northern issues, first leading the Northern Affairs Organization (Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs), including key files such as NWT devolution and the establishment of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) and then President of the Canadian Economic Development Agency (CanNor). She concluded her public service career launching Laboratories Canada, an initiative to revitalize federal science laboratories.
